Self Reliant Living.us a blog not only about being self reliant, but it’s about Community. It’s about Responsibility. It’s about Sustainability.
“The older I get and the more change I see, the more I realize, I don’t like change. Not in the direction, that we, as a society are headed.”
With todays modern marvels and all the great technology that we have, you might thing that we are closer than ever. You can send mail instantly to anywhere in the world. You can Skype or FaceTime with your best friend half way across the continent. If a major disaster or event happens on the other side of the globe, we can sit in our homes or office and get minute by minute updates. However, as I see it, we are not growing closer together. We are growing apart. We spend so much time online, that we don’t have enough time to spend with each other.
Not to long ago, we used to live in a society when families would sit around the table and socialize with each other. If a son had problem, he could approach his father talk to him about it. If a family was in need, another family next door or down the road would offer assistance. I firmly believe that we are losing this personal connection with each other.
As human beings we have a fundamental responsibility to each other. We have the responsibility to help one another and help each other grow. We have the responsibility to do pitch in and do our part to make society a better place. Life is about community but not everyone can take, take, take. People who take when they are in need, have a responsibility to give when they can. We have a responsibility to exercise our rights, to participate in the human race and to participate in Government. To go Vote and to go Volunteer. To be heard, you have to speak up. It’s our responsibility to speak up.
It is estimated that by 2050 nine billion people will inhabit this planet. In this fast paced world where everyone wants everything in an instant, nobody wants to wait for anything. I believe, some things are worth the wait. We are consuming so much, and so quickly, that we are already living far beyond the earth’s capacity to support us. Nearly a sixth of our fellow humans go to bed hungry each day. We need to start living within our means, we have a responsibility to ourselves to eliminate our personal debt, as individual communities we need to start providing our own energy and growing out own food. We need to start reusing items instead of throwing them away, making our landfills larger and our resources less and less.
As I grow to be more self reliant, I hope to use my acquired resources to develop a community where others can learn as well. Through working together, little by little, can we grow and make things change. It has to start with each of us individually. It’s our responsibility to make sure that our fundamental rights and our god given resources are here for future generations. It’s up to us to pass down the knowledge that we have to those generations. This community will grow and learn together. We will work hard, play hard and reap the benefits of our dedicated efforts.
I invite you to come along with Us, as we travel down this road.
